This piece was better than whatever I had in mind. So good. I struggle to watch college sports generally but always find my way in during the tournies. And yes, I too have SC to win it all but all I really want is that Iowa LSU rematch and for Juju to show up and show out on the big stage. Thank you for writing this by request. So grateful.

I agree; it's sickening (derogatory) how exploited college athletes are. I really really really hope that SC is able to win it all and that the officiating of their games is fair (not anti-Black and misogynoirist) and that Holly Rowe is as uninvolved in everything as possible (I am also an eternal buzzkill, to some people)

I love the research you included throughout, this is fantastic. I’m so interested to see how unions grow across college sports. I hope they do. Also, I’m hoping we see a battle of the USCs in the national championship (but ofc I have South Carolina winning it all).

Absolutely SC to win it all despite my longtime Hawkeye fandom (since I went to Iowa for grad school just after Vivian Stringer moved to Rutgers). Don’t care who plays SC in the final though I’m sort of pulling for Tara Vdv to have one more go (maybe there’s more than one more? But surely she should also get to retire at some point?). Albany is a ridiculous region.

As a Eugene resident now, watching the Ducks collapse in real time has sucked, but watching Te-Hina Paopao succeed so beautifully with Dawn Staley this year has been superb. (And we’re off to watch also former Duck Jaz Shelley play for Nebraska, the team that beat the Hawkeyes once and REALLY pushed them in the Big Ten Championship game, in Corvallis tonight - love that she’s doing so well!) I also bought tix to the Portland regionals back in October, hoping Iowa would end up there, but oh well, we’ll see whomever we see.

ANYWAY … point is: Thank you for writing about the exploitation as well. Really appreciate the discussion of labor issues and the discussion of the great wh*te hope theme around Ionescu (who, let’s be real, WAS an incredible college player), Clark, and others. SO important. And the Clark reporter thing is disgusting, even though I love Holly Rowe’s work. Sigh. Going where the money is, I guess.
